Meet David Marquardt

Hello, my name is David Marquardt. Please call me “Dave” or “Hey You.” Anything but Mr. Marquardt - that’s my father. At KGO family law, we are family and treat everyone that way.

I have a lot of experience in divorce and family law, elder law and estate planning, and I have a bunch of legal awards, but those aren’t important to you. Instead, you probably want to know how and why I can help you.

The Early Years.

When I was younger, I wanted to be a professional athlete. Throughout my childhood, I played competitive sports, mostly soccer. Sports taught me the value of hard work, discipline, and respect. Soccer taught me about learning the process of setting goals, and competing to obtain a result. This experience has helped me immeasurably through my life, both personally and professionally.

The Problem.

Through sports, and the interaction between people of varying backgrounds, I also saw firsthand the tragedy and heartache that results from a lack of proper planning and taking care of personal and family needs. Although I didn’t know it at the time, there was a player on one of my soccer teams who had a very tumultuous home life. His father was always angry, his mother regularly stressed out; and, although they both had stable jobs, money was constantly an issue. As the years went by, and we grew from toddlers to school-agers to teenagers, things got worse. My friend’s father became abusive, his mother started ignoring herself and her responsibilities, and the three children were forgotten. Neither parent planned for the future, and they ended up depleting their savings in a contentious divorce, rather than keeping it for their kids. Years later, I discovered that, although my friend’s mother built her assets back up, she had to spend it all down again for personal care because she didn’t have a long term care plan.

The Solution - Legal Planning and Solutions.

While I came to learn the story of my teammate and his family is fairly common, it was, and still is, heartbreaking to me. How could people who worked so hard have nothing to show for it when they needed help the most? How could a family lose everything while going through such a difficult time? What about the people who weren’t old enough to stand up for themselves?

There had to be a way to help people go through the most difficult times in their lives without getting crushed. There had to be a way to help people preserve their assets for when they needed them, and for future generations.

It turns out there is a way. With proper legal planning, people can deal with the financial, legal, and personal challenges that arise as they get older. People don’t have to lose everything just because their family life is not working out.

Why KGO Family Law?

My journey to becoming a law firm partner and prominent divorce and family law attorney came out of an intense sense of justice and a desire to stand up for people who cannot stand up for themselves. It started when I hung out with my friend’s family, and observed the unfortunate things that can happen.

After I graduated from Law School from the University of Miami in 2004, I started realizing that most of the people who need help from a lawyer can’t afford the high costs and uncertain fees resulting from the traditional law firm model. I went out on my own in search of a better way of doing things for attorneys and clients alike. My primary goal was more affordable and predictable solutions for clients, while also creating an excellent client experience, no matter the result. I began experimenting with the traditional legal model, offering limited scope, pay-as-you-go services, flat fee options and traditional choices. I also began investing in technology to better the client experience.

Like many business owners, my law firm isn’t just where I work; it’s part of who I am.

KGO Family Law is for you.

We started KGO Family Law for you. Every day, the firm is devoted to serving clients and the community with enthusiasm and value. Your case isn’t just a legal event but a complete and total life transition, so I strive to be a concierge that can address any and all of the issues you may face.
